Yep, here’s another way of getting your daily green tea intake: green tea chewing gum!
Although a solution for people who are constantly on the road and who still want their daily dose of antioxidants, it appears to be yet another trend in the dieting industry.
Most of these chewing gum suppliers promote weight loss but they forget to mention their product often contains natural or artificial flavors (sweeteners) and colors. This, of course, inhibits the health benefits of the chewing gum.
What are the health benefits of green tea gum?
Green tea is a natural source of fluoride which helps to prevent cavities and strengthens tooth enamel. What is more, its anti-inflammatory function helps to break down bacteria, forming plaque or infections in the mouth.
It also freshens your breath, always a big plus when buying chewing gum!
Most importantly, however, green tea can boost your metabolism and various studies found it oxidizes fat faster which in turn reduces your waist circumference and body weight.
The most popular gum, created by Dr. Stephen Hsu, acclaimed Cell Biologist affiliated with the Medical College of Georgia, the leading researcher of green tea benefits, is Mega-T Green Tea Chewing Gum, with a fresh mint flavor.
Two pieces of gum, containing EGCG, a day are supposed to provide the same health benefits as two cups of green tea. Be careful though because this has not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration.
What is more, although it does not contain sugar, calories, fat, salt or carbohydrates it does contain natural and artificial flavors and colors.
They recommend chewing two pieces of gum three times a day or after each meal for at least 15 minutes.
