Green Tea Frappuccino: Buy It or Make It?

The green tea frappuccino has been made famous by Starbucks. Together with tea brand Tazo® they created the Tazo® Green Tea Frappuccino®, sweetened green tea and blended with milk and ice. And if that’s not enough, you can get whipped cream on top!

This bright green colored frappuccino has a similar texture to a milkshake and has a mild green tea flavor.

…..There’s just one thing……

As you might’ve guessed by now, the only disadvantage is that this little baby is very high in calories and fat; with whole milk, skim milk or soy milk are 330, 310 or 320 calories and 4.5, 3 and 2.5 grams of fat respectively. Again, add the whipped cream and the calories go up with another 110 calories (and 11.5 grams of fat).

Yep, although TASTY…this frappuccino has nothing to do with healthy green tea!

Recipe #1

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 teaspoon green tea powder (matcha)
  • 2 ounces hot water
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons vanilla-flavored syrup or
    1 1/2 tablespoons sugar, to taste
  • 4 ounces milk
  • Ice

Preparation:

Dissolve green tea in hot water. Add milk and syrup. Blend with a handful or so of ice cubes. Top with whipped cream if desired.

Recipe #2

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 1 green tea bag
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1 packet sweetener
  • 1 Tbsp Davincis sugar free vanilla syrup, or 2 drops Stevia Sweetleaf vanilla liquid drops
  • 1-1/2 cups crushed ice

Preparation:

Combine powdered sweetener, tea and water. Let steep for 5 minutes. Squeeze excess tea bag into water after removing to get the most of the green tea kick and color. Crush ice in blender. Combine all ingredients in blender and mix until frothy. Top with whipped cream and chocolate syrup if desired.
