Research shows that by drinking green tea diabetes type 1 is something that can be completely prevented or at least be delayed from occurring for the first time.
Read the Report on Type 1 diabetes.
Dr. Stephen Hsu, molecular/cell biologist in the Medical College of Georgia – School of Dentistry found that EGCG, an antioxidant in green tea, is responsible for this.
Dr. Hsu has been studying the different health effects of green tea when he made this discovery concerning autoimmune diseases.
Read more on how Dr. Hsu found green tea plays a protective role in autoimmune diseases.
Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease causing the body’s immune system to attack its own tissues, causing health issues that can sometimes even be life-threatening.
Each body has autoantigens (molecules) which have a lot of useful functions.
Sometimes, however, changes in their amount or location can trigger an immune response. Dr. Hsu found that EGCG affects the autoimmune response to any of these changes by suppressing autoantigens.
“To test the effects of EGCG, researchers treated a control group of mice with water and a test group with a purified form of EGCG dissolved in the drinking water.
At 16 weeks, the EGCG-fed mice were 6.1 times more likely to be diabetes-free than the water-fed group, and 4.2 times more likely at 22 weeks”.
This is very good news because green tea is a natural product, without any negative side-effects unlike the insulin, steriods or medicines normally prescribed when diagnosed with type 1 diabetes or any other autoimmune disease.
By regularly drinking green tea
prevent diabetes type 1
(or at least it’s better treatable…)
